In competitive dance, competition season is January - April. It is BUSY, but it is also so much fun. I LOVE to see Lexie dance. She has so much personality and style. At the end of the season, the final competition was in St. George. We decided to take this opportunity to have a one on one road trip with our girl. It was so much fun to have Lex all to ourselves. I think she liked it too. As the oldest of four kids, (one of which requires quite a bit of attention), it was good for her to have this time that was truly all about her.
We only had a few days, but we tried to make the most of it. The first day, the three of us didn't move until 8:00 am. We've NEVER slept in that long. I think we were all exhausted and relieved to finally have a reprieve from our busy lives.
One morning, after a breakfast at the Black Bear Diner (you MUST go there if you're ever in St. George), we decided to go for a hike instead of a morning run. We had heard about Pioneer Park and wanted to check it out. It is a great place with trails and plenty of rocks for kids of all ages to climb. You could go for as long and as high as you were able. Our other kids would have loved it.
On a trip, you always have to take the obligatory dance pictures. :) Golda and Rubes know what we mean. :) You just have ta.
Next it was on to the competition. As was the case with all of Luv 2 Dance's routines this season, they killed it and took first in almost all the routines. Lex loved every minute.
Lex also made great friendships through the studio.
These girls are all so special and Lexie's circle of friends just continues to spread through all of these associations. They may all go to different high schools, but the bond is there.
We sure love our girl. She is unique, beautiful, talented, stylish, fun, thoughtful, talented, and just a little crazy. Well, we both are, actually. We had a hard time taking some of these pics. Back then, she was trying to teach me the "duck face". :)
Then in May, we had the end of year show. We loved working with the Luv 2 Dance team, Kim - owner, and Shalice and Marci - directors. They truly get the girls and try to support them as dancers and as individuals. It was incredible. When we first signed up with the studio, they asked what night Lexie had Young Women's. They then told us what nights classes were available to her so we could work around church. What???? Incredible!
I also felt liked the studio took accepted Lex for who she was and then helped her find ways to become a better dancer. For example (this is one of many), Lex was new to Hip Hop. Instead of saying that she would have to take a rec class and then audition for the comp Hip Hop team the next year, they found a spot for her on a team. The rest was history. In that environment, Lex was a hard hitting girl with swag. She loved every minute.
Because comp is a BIT of money and we weren't sure what to expect, Lex competed in two routines; Jazz and Hip Hop. But, that was enough. She had comp, technique, and hip hop classes three nights a week. With 9th Grade Cheer on top of that, it was enough.
Because Lex started late in the season, the dances were already choreographed. So, for Jazz, she didn't have too many parts up front. But, when she was on stage, she was a star. (Middle top pic - her part was different than the girls in front.)

Hip Hop was another story. She was front and center almost the whole routine. Her friend, Christian, was the guy in the routine, and they had SO MUCH FUN. Now that she is in drill, and not dancing with the L2D team anymore, she misses it!
After the May show, her BF Danny was there to give her a congratulatory hug. Even though they are no longer BF / GF, they are still great friends. We'll have to see what happens with those two. He is a great friend and I'm glad she looks for boys who treat her with respect.
That's a wrap! Way to go Lex.
