Memorial Day 2013...

Memorial Day is traditionally the big kick off to summer.  We love the traditions we've established for making family a priority.  We celebrate not only those who've gone before us and who have paved the way for our lives, but for those we are still lucky enough to associate with even though it may only be a few times a year.

Where we need to improve is establishing some sort of event with the Penmans and Gustafsons.  We used to always visit those graves.  Now it seems that happens only every other year or so.  Hopefully we can do better this next year.

This is Grace.  She is one sweet lady.  Now that she is getting older, we don't see her very often.  But, we did manage to get to talk with her for a few minutes when we were visiting graves in Ogden.  Her health is declining and we know she won't be with us for very many more years.  So, that made this chance encounter that much sweeter.  Grace LOVED Izzy.  She thought she was just beautiful.  We think Grace is beautiful.  I love her British accent and her timeless sense of class and decorum.

I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the Dopp Clan for the Dopp graves.  Our meeting time must have interfered with church schedules.  See, this is the problem with not blogging regularly.  You forget some of the details. :(

But, almost all of us made it to the Hill graves.  We are getting to be quite the crowd.  I always feel a little bad that we take over this area for a few minutes on Memorial Day.  Between the size of our group and the free soda the cemetery hands out, it really is a free for all on our little knoll.

After dinner, we headed back to Circe's for a spaghetti dinner.  Thanks for always opening your home up to us Scott and Circ.  It's a great way to kick off the weekend.

Some how I only managed to take these three pics at Lagoon the next day.  But.. they paint the picture of what the day is about.  Family and fun!

The kids thought the new tea cup ride at Lagoon was pretty fun.  We even managed to see a smile from Jackson!

Izzy hit a big milestone.  She rode the white roller coaster with Ari and other cousins.  She was SOOOO excited to finally be tall enough to ride.  I was sad I couldn't go with her, but I need to stay and wait for Jackson to get off the Merry Go Round.  If I wouldn't have been there, it would have been a frightening situation with his terror.  So... thank you Ari, for helping Izzy.  I'm glad she will always have that memory with you.  I remember riding it for the first time with my dad.  I think I bit a hole into his white shirt.  The white roller coaster is a delightful terror. :)

Until May 2014.  We can't wait!
